Shift: Days - Mon-Thu 07:30-16:30, Fri 07:30-12:30 (39 hours)
Pay: Up to £20.00/hour DOE
Holidays: 25 days per year
Overtime: x1.3 Mon-Fri, x1.5 Sat, x2 Sun
Pension: 5% employee / 3% employer
Headcount: Hiring 2-3 on days
Company snapshot: Established subcontract engineering group with a wide mix of work. You will see batches and one-offs across multiple industries, so on-machine programming is essential.
Role overview: Program at the machine from drawings, set and operate CNC machinery to deliver conforming parts efficiently. You will own first-off, in-process checks and documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement on tooling and methods.
You will work with:
- Controls: Heidenhain, HAAS, Mazak, or FANUC (on-machine programming essential)
- Materials: varied, including alloys
- Work types: batch production and one-offs
Key responsibilities:
- Program at the control from drawings; set and operate to spec
- Select tooling/workholding; optimise feeds, speeds and methods
- Produce first-off and in-process inspection; maintain tight tolerances
- Complete clear job records and handovers
- Support housekeeping, 5S and safe working practices
Requirements:
- Time-served apprenticeship or relevant qualifications
- Proven on-machine programming on at least one of Heidenhain/HAAS/Mazak/FANUC
- Strong drawing interpretation and metrology skills
- Comfortable with varied materials, batch sizes and priorities
- Right to work in the UK
Nice to have:
- Multi-axis experience (e.g., 4/5-axis milling or Y/sub on lathes)
- Ideas for cycle-time and tooling improvements
