Fire Extinguisher Manager Location: Aberdeen Job Type: Full-time Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum Benefits: Casual dress code Free on‑site parking Company car / car allowance + mileage UK visa sponsorship available About the Company We are a well‑established, independent fire safety company based in Aberdeen, serving commercial clients across the North East of Scotland for over 20 years. With a strong reputation for reliability, integrity, and outstanding customer care, we provide a full range of fire extinguisher servicing, fire risk assessments, system design, installation, and maintenance. Our team is stable and supportive - many of our staff have been with us for over a decade, and we pride ourselves on a low‑turnover, family‑feel culture. We are now looking for a hands‑on Service Manager to take full ownership of our Fire Extinguisher division following the retirement of a long‑serving manager. The Role This is a pivotal leadership position where you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of our fire extinguisher and mechanical services department. You will oversee a team of engineers and risk assessors, coordinate service schedules, ensure compliance with all relevant British Standards, and act as the technical lead for the department. Unlike a purely desk‑based role, you will be out meeting clients 2-3 times a week, conducting site surveys, attending contract reviews, and building long‑term relationships. You will also work closely with senior leadership to drive service quality, manage audits (including BSI inspections), and support the commercial side by quoting remedial works. This role offers genuine long‑term progression, with a clear pathway to a directorial position as the current leadership looks towards future succession. Key Responsibilities Team Management: Lead, motivate, and mentor a team of 5 Fire Extinguisher Engineers, 2 Fire Risk Assessors, and 2 part‑time Fire Safety Trainers - ensuring their diaries are full, work is completed to a high standard, and customer expectations are met. Service Delivery: Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and servicing of fire extinguishers, dry risers, fire hydrant checks, and kitchen fire suppression systems across a diverse range of commercial clients (including oil & gas, universities, NHS, and local authorities). Client Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with key B2B clients - attending meetings, conducting site surveys, and acting as the go‑to technical expert for the department. Compliance & Audits: Ensure all work meets relevant British Standards and regulatory requirements; prepare for and host BSI auditor visits, managing documentation and quality control processes. Operational Planning: Coordinate service schedules, manage stock and equipment, and work with the office coordinator to ensure engineer utilisation targets are met. Commercial Support: Quote for remedial works and small installation projects, working closely with the sales team to identify upsell opportunities while keeping customer satisfaction as the primary KPI. Requirements Experience: Proven management or supervisory experience specifically within the fire extinguisher servicing industry - you must have hands‑on technical knowledge of extinguishers, dry risers, and related mechanical fire safety systems. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of relevant British Standards (e.g., BS 5306) and fire safety regulations; familiarity with fire risk assessments is highly desirable. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a technical team, with excellent organisational and planning skills (scheduling, resource allocation, documentation). Client‑Facing Ability: Confidence to liaise with clients at all levels, attend meetings, and conduct site surveys - you will be out of the office meeting customers 2-3 times per week. Systems: Competent with basic office software and service management tools for reporting and record‑keeping. A full, valid UK driving licence and the ability to work on‑site across Aberdeen and the surrounding area. Why Join Us? Culture: Join a supportive, low‑pressure environment where the focus is on doing a great job for clients, not aggressive sales targets. Your main KPI is simply keeping customers happy and ensuring maintenance is delivered on time. Progression: This isn't just a manager role - it's a stepping stone. With the current senior leadership looking towards retirement, there is a genuine opportunity for the right person to progress to Director level in the future. Autonomy: You'll have real ownership of your department, with the freedom to shape processes, manage your team your way, and make a tangible impact on service quality and growth.
