Sequential is seeking a Lead Bioinformatician to support our bioinformatics team and data strategy. This pivotal role will involve overseeing the development and implementation of advanced bioinformatics pipelines for skin microbiome analysis, guiding data interpretation for clinical and consumer studies, and contributing to scientific publications and commercial projects. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in microbiome analysis, metagenomics, and machine learning, along with leadership experience in a fast-paced biotech environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for skin microbiome data analysis, including amplicon-based and metagenomic pipelines.
  • Oversee data integration and interpretation from high-resolution microbial datasets generated through our \’Smart Probe\’ technology.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, clinical, and commercial teams to drive scientific insights and product development.
  • Drive innovation in bioinformatics tools, statistical models, and data visualization for microbiome analysis.
  • Ensure data quality, reproducibility, and scalability of analytical processes.
  • Contribute to scientific publications and presentations at industry conferences.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and methodologies in microbiome bioinformatics.
  • Applying best practice of data security and safety

Qualifications and expectations:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in bioinformatics, including leadership roles.
  • Strong expertise in microbiome analysis, metagenomics, and microbial ecology. Experience working with pipelines for network analysis in metagenomic datasets.

· Experience using the programs QIIME2, Graphpad, Geneious, or ones of equivalent use

· Proficiency in one or more statistical programming language (R, python, etc) and comfortable working on the command line

· Use of cloud based platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc) for the handling and storage of large amounts of data

  • Experience with machine learning techniques applied to biological data.
  • application of automation to scale, improve, and standardise large data processes
  • Experience accessing information on NCBI and other similar open source repositories
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional projects and mentoring teams.
  • Strong scientific publication record, and track record of winning grants is a plus.
