The RF Application Engineer provides technical expertise and hands‑on support to customers integrating advanced RF, wireless into their systems. This role bridges engineering and customer experience by troubleshooting complex hardware issues, validating RF performance, supporting product deployment, and ensuring customer success from design‑in through production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Customer Technical Support: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer inquiries related to RF, wireless, and hardware products. Diagnose and resolve RF performance issues, hardware malfunctions, signal integrity problems, and system‑level integration challenges. Reproduce customer issues in the lab using RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, VNAs, signal generators, oscilloscopes, FPGA reference platforms, etc). Provide timely, accurate, and clear technical responses, including root‑cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
- Field & Integration Support: Assist customers during product bring‑up, calibration, and RF system integration phases. Guide customers in driver development, RF tuning, layout best practices, and system performance optimization. Support FPGA‑based configuration, debugging, and signal processing workflows. Participate in on‑site customer visits when required for complex debugging or deployment support.
- Product Expertise & Collaboration: Work cross‑functionally with R&D, hardware design, RF engineering, and firmware/FPGA teams to elevate issues and ensure customer feedback is incorporated into future releases. Develop a deep understanding of product architecture, RF signal chains, embedded systems, and FPGA controls. Contribute to product validation, regression testing, and analysis of real‑world RF performance.
- Documentation & Training: Create and maintain customer‑facing resources: application notes, troubleshooting guides, FAQs, and reference designs. Provide technical training sessions, webinars, and workshops for customers and internal teams. Document customer issues and enhancements in internal tracking systems and ensure follow‑through.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of RF principles: modulation schemes, RF chains, propagation, noise, filtering, linearity, PLLs, mixers, power amplifiers. Hands‑on experience with RF test and measurement equipment. Solid understanding of wireless systems (e.g., LTE/5G). Proficiency in hardware debugging including board bring‑up, signal integrity, and component‑level analysis. Experience with FPGA programming and debugging. Familiarity with embedded systems, digital control and data interfaces (SPI, I2C, MIPI RFFE, RBDP, JESD, etc.), and mixed‑signal fundamentals.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into customer‑friendly language. Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a structured debugging approach. Ability to manage multiple customer cases and prioritise effectively. Team‑oriented mindset with a passion for customer satisfaction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
- Experience supporting RF/wireless semiconductor or module‑based products.
- Knowledge of RF PCB layout best practices and tools (Altium, Cadence, or similar).
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, MATLAB) for test automation and analysis.
- Background in customer‑facing engineering roles (FAE, support engineer, applications engineer).
