Are you looking for a career working directly with animals and making a real impact on their care and wellbeing? Start your journey with Sequani, a leader in regulatory safety testing, through our Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship. After a thorough induction and a personalised training programme, you'll gain hands-on experience and a solid understanding of working with animals in toxicology and pre-clinical research. You will be playing a vital role in the development of life-changing medicines.

Who we are: Sequani is a contract research organisation based in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. We conduct regulatory safety testing to help make the world a safer place. As a Gold Investors in People organisation, we are confident that we can offer a varied role, together with a good range of company benefits and excellent career progression. Our customers frequently complement us on our friendly, professional, and high-quality service and we inject commitment and purpose into everything we do.

Our Laboratory Animal Science department comprises several distinct animal facilities, each with a specific focus based on species and/or study type. The LAS team is made up of staff across various grades and levels of experience. Unlike many other establishments in the industry, our team members receive extensive cross-training and are proficient in a wide range of techniques and procedures across all species housed within the facilities.

Role Overview: This entry-level role is perfect for someone ready to take their first step into a career in the science industry. In this role, you'll be at the heart of animal welfare, learning key skills like:

  • Daily husbandry routines including feeding, watering, socialisation and cage changing
  • Maintaining clean and healthy environments for laboratory species
  • Supporting experienced Animal Technologists with technical procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and in particular those relating to Animal Welfare, GLP and Health & Safety

Rolling shift pattern of start and finish times: 07:00 - 15:30, 08:00 - 16:30 and 09:00 - 17:30.

What we are looking for:

  • A genuine passion for animal care and welfare
  • An interest in Science
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a structured environment
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills with a can-do attitude
  • GCSE in English (grade 4) and Maths (grade 4)
  • A small amount of experience of working with animals in a voluntary or paid capacity is advantageous but not essential.

The work can be physical and due to the flexible working nature - i.e. working some weekends, we do seek people who can get into work with their own transport, as Sunday public transport can be tricky in Herefordshire.

What we can offer you:

  • Hands-on training and mentorship in animal care, through the Apprenticeship in Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Level 2 over the course of 18 months
  • A qualification: industry-recognised Institute of Animal Technology (IAT) Level 2 diploma in Laboratory Animal Science and Technology
  • A competitive Apprenticeship salary
  • Opportunity to work in a diverse and dynamic industry
  • Potential for career growth within the company
  • We are a small friendly company with an unrivalled focus on Quality and Customer service
  • We pride ourselves in offering competitive salaries and benefits
  • We offer a Health cash plan, including 24hr GP support line
  • A life insurance policy for 4x your annual salary, as well as local and countrywide corporate gym memberships
