Position description
Job Family / Sub-family: R&D - R&D Lab
Contract type: Permanent
Position Context:
Working within Research & Development team reporting to the R&D Team Leader.
Main tasks:
- Ensure good housekeeping throughout the lab, maintaining high standards of health and safety.
- Develop lab scale processes (< 20 L) and work with chemical engineers to scale to manufacturing quantities (vessels ranging from 10-30 m3).
- Prepare detailed technical reports on all R&D work.
- Collaborate with quality control team to facilitate the transfer of analytical methodologies.
- Effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary teams for the introduction of new chemical processes.
- Perform an assessment of reactive chemistries and participate in cross-functional process safety reviews.
- Contribute to the training and mentorship of more junior team members.
- Support quality assurance and regulatory colleagues in customer service support.
Required skills:
Required:
- Degree in chemistry.
- Good working knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and associated laboratory skills.
- Ability to plan and execute work independently.
- Demonstrable project management skills and ability to work with multifunctional teams.
- Excellent communication abilities; able to articulate complex technical information to any audience.
- Flexible attitude towards the support of industrial manufacturing processes.
Desirable:
- Higher degree in chemistry or related subject.
- Experience working in an industrial lab.
- Knowledge of lean six sigma and related operational excellence tools.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques for the quantification of low level (ppm/ppb) organic impurities.
- Knowledge of quality management systems.
- Understanding of HAZOP and LOPA processes.
