We are currently recruiting for a Principal System Engineer to join our expanding team. Sepura is looking for an experienced engineer to take on the role of Principal System Engineer. In this role you will shape the technical direction of our products, guiding teams to create high quality, reliable and forward-looking solutions. Role
As a Principal System Engineer, you will play a central role in shaping the technical direction of our products. You will lead the design of innovative solutions and ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality, performance and reliability. You will work closely with subject matter experts, engineering teams and product management to turn customer and market needs into effective technical solutions. You will guide engineering teams, provide clear technical leadership and make informed decisions that keep projects on track. Your ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical colleagues will be vital in building strong working relationships across the business.

Our customer base includes many different industries and markets around the world. Our complete TETRA and LTE solutions have been developed specifically for users in multiple sectors to face their critical communications challenges.
Responsibilities
- Act as the engineering authority for Sepura development projects, guiding technical direction with confidence.
- Work with subject matter experts to architect strong, future ready technical solutions.
- Provide hands on technical leadership and mentor engineering teams.
- Build strong relationships across the business and help drive projects to meet time, cost and quality targets.
- Serve as a senior engineering voice, reviewing evidence and making clear, informed technical decisions.
- Identify risks early and create practical actions that keep projects on track.
- Partner with the advanced technology team to turn research concepts into real products.
- Generate new ideas and help improve the way we work.
- Use your product knowledge to respond quickly to issues and shape effective solutions.
- Guide teams in good engineering practice to ensure high quality products that meet all requirements.
- Manage stakeholders through clear communication, planning and regular updates.
- Work closely with the project manager to shape processes and maintain project schedules.
- Act as the go to contact for engineering teams, helping resolve issues and supporting technical decisions.
- Assess compliance of product performance against requirements.
- Keep an eye on industry trends and help influence future product roadmaps.
- Manage supply chain challenges by assessing obsolescence notifications and finding strong alternative solutions.
- Travel may occasionally be a part of the role, potentially involving visiting customers to discuss technical solutions, or visiting suppliers to resolve technical issues. Therefore, the successful candidate must have a valid passport and drivers licence.
- Due to the nature of our UK customer base, the individual may be expected to complete UK Security Clearance (SC) vetting.
- This role is 5-days a week at our Waterbeach office but we could offer hybrid working (minimum 3-days on site).
What You Need To Succeed
Qualifications (must have)
- Degree or diploma in Engineering. Electronics, Software, Mechanical or System Engineering.
Experience and Skills (must have)
- Proven leadership experience within a similar technical role.
- A self‑starter with strong technical leadership skills in a multidisciplinary product development environment.
- Solid understanding of product development lifecycle principles.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders to ensure product designs meet functional and non-functional requirements and align with wider technical and architectural goals.
- Skilled in defining technical requirements and leading teams to deliver against them.
- Experience aligning product development standards and frameworks with business and technology strategy.
- Expert in using analytical methods to design solutions that deliver the best outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Commercial and organisational awareness with experience in mentoring, coaching, performance management and resource planning.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced and collaborative environment.
- Able to build strong working relationships and challenge constructively when needed.
