It’s an exciting time to come and join the Sepura team. We are seeking an experienced Electronics Test & Automation Team Leader to lead a team responsible for the verification, characterisation, automation and investigation of electronic subsystems and products across TETRA, LTE and future communication technologies. This is a hands-on technical leadership position, combining people leadership with practical engineering responsibility.

You will lead a team of Baseband and RF Test Engineers delivering verification, characterisation and automated test solutions for Sepura's critical communication products. You will be responsible for ensuring test coverage, automation strategy, resource planning and technical excellence across the team while actively contributing to complex investigations, test development, automation frameworks and product validation activities.

Role:

  • Technical Leadership
    • Define Electronics Verification Strategy for RF and Baseband subsystems.
    • Review and approve verification plans, test procedures and test reports.
    • Ensure sufficient test coverage against product requirements.
    • Drive continuous improvement of test methodologies.
    • Act as technical authority for Electronics Verification activities.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and develop a team of test and automation engineers.
    • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews and development planning.
    • Support recruitment and onboarding of engineers.
    • Manage team utilisation and resource allocation.
    • Build technical capability and succession plans within the team.
  • Test Automation
    • Define roadmap for automation growth across RF and Baseband testing.
    • Drive development of Python-based automation frameworks.
    • Improve test execution efficiency and repeatability.
    • Collaborate with Manufacturing Test Engineering to maximise re-use of test methods and automation assets.
  • Product Verification
    • Lead verification activities for RF Subsystems, Baseband Subsystems, TETRA Products, LTE Products, Future Radio Technologies.
  • Support:
    • Characterisation testing
    • Validation testing
    • Regression testing
    • Environmental testing
    • Production readiness testing
  • Investigation & Problem Solving
    • Lead complex root-cause investigations.
    • Drive closure of verification defects through Jira.
    • Support Design of Experiments (DoE).
    • Work closely with Hardware, Firmware and Systems Engineers.
    • Present technical findings to project stakeholders and senior management.

Day to Day:

Our customer base includes many different industries and markets around the world. Our complete TETRA and LTE solutions have been developed specifically for users in multiple sectors to face their critical communications challenges. Our critical communications products are adding more and more radio capability integrating Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GNSS capability and we expect 5G to be added in the near future. These radios require significant effort to determine whether they meet the performance and quality expectations that our customers rely on. With multiple radios integrated into a handset, there are significant challenges in test coverage which can only be efficiently addressed with improvements in test methods, test coverage and automation, you will be a key contributor in that aspect of growth within the team.

There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business, Baseband, Conformance, Production test Engineering, Project Management and the Design Authority office, activities you will be responsible for include:

  • Leading technical reviews and planning meetings.
  • Coaching and mentoring engineers.
  • Reviewing verification progress and project risks.
  • Supporting RF and Baseband investigations.
  • Defining and reviewing automated test solutions.
  • Reviewing test reports and product readiness status.
  • Collaborating with development, conformance and manufacturing teams.
  • Supporting programme milestones and product releases.
  • Prioritising workload across multiple projects.

Global travel is unlikely to be part of the role, local travel to test houses for radiated performance testing, and UK travel for training is likely, so the successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence and their own car. Travel expenses will be paid. The role is full time, office based at our office in Waterbeach, Cambridge, UK.

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or related discipline.

  • Significant experience in RF and/or Electronics Verification.
  • Experience with communication systems such as TETRA, LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS.
  • Experience developing automated test solutions using Python.
  • Experience planning and executing verification campaigns.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis and fault investigation.
  • Experience working with cross-functional development teams.
