Due to continued success, we are looking to recruit an experienced and dedicated Mechanical Design Authority to join our team.

As Mechanical Design Authority, you will be responsible for providing overall technical ownership for the development of professional mobile digital radio products and accessories to ensure a high quality, repeatable design which meets the agreed requirements and delivering products into volume production.

Role

There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business. Activities you will be responsible for include:

  • Leading technical contact during scoping, definition, design and production phase of new product development.
  • Providing technical guidance for possible solution types to meet requirements.
  • Assessing compliance of product performance against requirements.
  • Reviewing mechanical engineering outputs for approval, including drawing review and approval.
  • Mentoring and supporting mechanical design engineers.
  • Providing technical solutions designed for manufacture.
  • Managing 3rd party injection moulding suppliers.

This job involves some travelling, including internationally (2 long haul a year, 2 short haul), so the successful applicant will have a full, clean driving licence, their own car and a valid passport. Travel expenses will be paid.

This role requires UK Baseline security clearance.

What you need to succeed

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Experience and skills

  • Solid foundation of experience in mechanical product designs that include integrated electronics operating in demanding environmental conditions.
  • A broad range of mechanical engineering knowledge and proven industry experience in an equivalent lead engineer role.
  • Experience in manufacturing and injection moulding.
  • A self-starter with the ability to drive technical direction within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • The ability to consolidate complex and often conflicting requirements into clear and deliverable commitments.
  • The capability to specify technical requirements which result in “right first time” designs.
  • Strong understanding of product development lifecycle principals.
  • Proven track record of taking a lead role in delivering products into volume production.

Desirable

  • Some prior experience working with electronics will also be beneficial within this role.
  • Experience of electrical cable designs.
  • Experience of mechanical design for:
    • Acoustic system performance.
    • RF system integration.
