Overview
Sepura is a global leader in mission‑critical communications technology. As part of continued growth, we are seeking a Mechanical Design Verification Engineer to strengthen our mechanical verification capability. This role is focused on verification and validation of mechanical designs across the full product lifecycle, ensuring designs meet functional, environmental, reliability, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements. You will work closely with Mechanical Design, Electronics, Systems, and Manufacturing teams to identify design risks early and provide objective evidence of compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Design Verification
- Define, plan, and execute mechanical design verification activities against requirements, specifications, and applicable standards.
- Review mechanical designs, drawings, tolerances, materials, and assemblies to identify verification risks and gaps.
- Develop verification strategies, test plans, and test specifications aligned to product requirements and design intent.
- Ensure traceability between requirements, test cases, and verification evidence.
- Test Execution & Analysis
- Perform mechanical verification testing including (but not limited to): Environmental and durability testing (shock, vibration, drop, thermal, ingress protection).
- Structural and mechanical integrity testing.
- Wear, fatigue, and life‑cycle testing.
- Design, specify, and build mechanical test fixtures, jigs, and rigs to support verification activities.
- Analyse test results, identify failure modes, and provide clear root‑cause feedback to design teams.
- Produce clear, concise, and accurate verification reports with objective pass/fail conclusions.
- Prototypes & Samples
- Assemble mechanical prototypes and test samples in line with design documentation.
- Manage and catalogue verification samples throughout the development lifecycle.
- Support iterative development design improvements through rapid test‑feedback loops.
- External Testing & Compliance Support
- Prepare samples and fixtures for external test houses.
- Support external mechanical and environmental testing activities, including attendance where required.
- Ensure internal verification aligns with relevant industry and regulatory standards.
- Equipment & Process Improvement
- Maintain and calibrate mechanical test equipment.
- Control departmental consumables and verification assets.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of mechanical verification processes, methods, and documentation.
Technical Skills (Essential)
- Understanding of mechanical/electrical/electronic drawings and principles.
- Knowledge and use of measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of pneumatics & pneumatic control - (basic).
- Previous experience of electro-mechanical test.
- Basic mechanical workshop skills (drilling & tapping, dremel, hand tools).
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Previous experience of PLC programming - (basic).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical verification or validation testing.
- Competence using measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, torque tools, etc.).
- Practical workshop skills (drilling, tapping, hand tools, minor rework).
- Experience writing test plans, test procedures, and verification reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Degree, HND, or equivalent experience).
Technical Skills (Desirable)
- Relevant experience in test of class leading telecoms/datacomms equipment.
- PLC programming - Mitsubishi Alpha.
- Previous experience of design/specification of development test equipment.
- Previous experience of design/specification of development jigs & fixtures.
- Statistical analysis of test data.
- Wiring to electrical schematics.
- Soldering.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T.
- Experience verifying electro‑mechanical products in regulated or mission‑critical environments.
- Knowledge of environmental and reliability standards (e.g. vibration, shock, IP ratings).
- Experience designing and specifying test fixtures and verification rigs.
- Statistical analysis of test data and trend reporting.
- Familiarity with FMEA, DFMEA, or structured risk analysis techniques.
- Experience working with external test houses and compliance bodies.
- Basic knowledge of pneumatics, PLC‑controlled test equipment, or automated test setups.
