We design from market requirements to customer delivery in Cambridge, UK, and manufacture in Europe to serve police, fire, ambulance services, mining, and industrial customers worldwide. We are a global leader in the design and supply of innovative communications solutions across multiple market segments, including emergency services. Our focus is the transition from TETRA to LTE ESN services and the development of complex vehicle‑based and handheld radios with extensive support accessories.
Role Overview
The role is a product development and maintenance position that includes:
- Technical requirements analysis, design down to the discrete level and specification of RF circuitry, including component specification, evaluation, and sourcing.
- Complete subsystem design, implementation and validation through to approved product.
- Schematic creation and PCB layout supervision.
- Integration with Digital, Audio, and MMI subsystems.
- Definition and documentation of test procedures.
- Root‑cause analysis of failures and updates to design to resolve faults.
- Type approval support to ensure compliance.
- Collaboration with all relevant departments to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions.
- Support for defining/creating new products where required.
This role may require some travel; a full, clean driving licence, own car, and a valid passport are required. Travel expenses will be covered.
What You Need to Succeed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
Experience and Skills
- Discrete RF design experience.
- Strong hands‑on design experience.
- Radio product development/integration up to 6 GHz, ideally within the telecommunications or critical communications industry.
- Good problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
- Knowledge of RF systems and technologies, including design, simulation, and conformance testing.
- Excellent time‑management and communication skills, with a history of delivering projects on time and with high quality.
Core RF Expertise
Significant design‑level experience in at least two of the following areas:
- RF Tx/Rx architectures.
- RF transmitters and receivers.
- RF Power Amplifiers.
- Frequency Generation (VCO).
- Matching networks.
- EMC/EMI.
- Broadband communication systems.
Tools & Engineering Methods
- RF simulation tools and modelling such as ADS, CST, or equivalents.
- RF (circuit and system) testing procedures, protocols, and use of facilities (e.g., anechoic chambers, screened rooms).
- Use of test equipment such as spectrum and network analysers, communications testers, etc.
Technology Experience
- TETRA/PMR – 100–900 MHz.
- LTE/4G/5G – Sub‑6 GHz.
- GSM – 800/900/1800 MHz.
Collaboration & Delivery Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with the team and collaborate with other departments.
- Ability to independently manage multiple varied projects simultaneously and effectively assign/delegate both internal and external resources.
- Excellent hands‑on experience handling PCBs and competent in own component rework and/or modifications.
Nice to Have
- GNSS – 1.0–1.6 GHz.
- Wi‑Fi – 2.4–6 GHz.
