The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, takes vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal. The technician complies with patient safety practices under the supervision of a registered nurse. Observes patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, documents findings accurately and timely, and reports any changes to the medical staff.

Our 20-bay PACU at Norfolk General is seeking a new or experienced Patient Care Technician to join our fast-paced unit that supports all specialties in our Level I Trauma Center.

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), US Navy Hospital Corps School completion, Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), Current student in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or Recent work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant.

Certification/Licensure: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
