Overview:
The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports activities of daily living, takes vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal. They comply with patient safety practices under the supervision of a registered nurse. They observe patients\’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions, document findings accurately and promptly, and report changes to the medical staff.
Department Overview: This unit cares for Medical and Surgical oncology patients in a 36-bed inpatient unit. It functions as both an oncology and intermediate care unit. We are hiring compassionate Patient Care Technicians to support our nursing team, particularly with chemotherapy and hospice patients.
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required) and one of the following:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, or
- Successful completion of CNA, NCMA, NCPCT, US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), or
- Current enrollment in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT, or
- Recent work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant within the last three years.
Certification/Licensure
- Basic Life Support Certification
