SenseAI Vision is a disruptive software company in the electron microscopy market. It has proprietary “compressed sensing” software that can generate better quality images with less data, to reduce beam damage and speed up workflows. It has applications outside electron microscopy as well. It is growing quickly and already has pedigree, publications and customers all over the world.

We are seeking a talented and motivated 4D STEM Specialist to help drive the development and application of SenseAI’s compressed sensing technology within the rapidly evolving 4D STEM landscape. Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype and validate 4D STEM data acquisition and processing pipelines, working closely with the R&D and software development teams
  • Develop and implement advanced ptychography workflows, pushing the boundaries of what is achievable with compressed sensing approaches
  • Translate complex 4D STEM methodologies into robust, scalable processing tools and contribute these up the chain to the core development team
  • Collaborate with applications and product teams to ensure 4D STEM capabilities are effectively integrated into SenseAI's software platform
  • Engage with customers and the wider research community to gather feedback, demonstrate capabilities, and support adoption of 4D STEM features
  • Contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and technical documentation showcasing SenseAI's advances in 4D STEM
  • Stay current with the rapidly developing 4D STEM and ptychography literature, identifying opportunities to incorporate emerging techniques
  • Support pre‑sales and evaluation activities by providing expert technical insight into 4D STEM workflows and applications

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Right to work in the UK (essential) – candidates must hold or be eligible for full UK right to work
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, the North West of England (preferred); UK‑based candidates will also be considered
  • Master's or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong hands‑on experience in scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), with specialisation in 4D STEM techniques and ptychography
  • Proven ability to prototype and test 4D STEM data acquisition and processing methods
  • Proficiency in scientific coding (Python, MATLAB, and/or C++) with experience developing data processing workflows
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to develop and communicate complex technical concepts clearly
  • Experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, including software engineers and product developers

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or awareness of compressed sensing as applied to 4D STEM
  • Experience working in materials science or life sciences using electron microscopy
  • Broader familiarity with the electron microscopy field, including conventional TEM and SEM techniques
  • Experience with detector technologies relevant to 4D STEM (e.g. direct electron detectors, pixelated detectors)
  • Familiarity with open‑source 4D STEM analysis tools (e.g. py4DSTEM, LiberTEM, or similar)
