We’re looking for reliable and motivated persons to join our professional team of Support Workers at our College Centre based in Aldeby, working 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, between 9:15 am and 4:15 pm, across 45 weeks of the year. The successful applicant will work with individuals who have dual or single sensory impairments, learning disabilities, and associated physical disabilities.

As a Support Worker, you will support young adults with complex communication needs, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities, helping them achieve Everyday Living outcomes. We employ a total communication approach, including methods such as BSL / Sign Supported English / On Body Signing / Intensive Interaction / Pictorial Symbols and Symbol Systems (PECS) / Hand Under Hand Exploration / Objects of Reference / Voice Output Communication Aids / Vocalisation, Facial Expression, and Body Language.

Our activities, both in-house and at local facilities, are designed to explore and motivate individual interests while promoting learning opportunities. We celebrate diversity and embrace British values, fostering a culture of mutual respect and tolerance. Sessions include Communication, Creative Arts, Therapies & Physical Activities, Lifeskills, and Community Access. We also organize enrichment activities like cinema visits, pantomimes, PMLD theatre trips, museum ‘touch tours,’ and river trips on a specially adapted barge.

The duties are varied, and no two days are the same.

We treat each person support as an individual. Support may include personal care and participation in activities that promote health and wellbeing. Does this sound right for you?

  • Providing a responsive, high-quality service to people with sensory, physical, and/or learning disabilities using Sense services.

Your required skills and experiences:

  • No previous experience or qualifications are necessary; we are happy to train you to become an excellent support worker.
  • Knowledge of multi-sensory impairments or learning difficulties is beneficial.
  • A full manual UK driving license and willingness to drive are desirable.
  • Knowledge of or qualification in British Sign Language or similar (BSL / Makaton, etc.) is beneficial.
