Looking for a part time job? We are looking for 2 hardworking, cheerful and organised persons who can help us provide healthy nutritious meals and snacks to our diverse group of guests. Our guests are people with complex support needs because of learning disability and or sensory impairment. All guests have communication support needs and most have been disabled since birth.

At Sense Scotland, we're looking for 2 Catering assistant/Cooks to join our dedicated team in Motherwell PHEW respite service. The service provides short breaks for guests with disabilities to enjoy a holiday in a supported environment and provides carers with a much needed break from their caring responsibilities. The service cares for up to 14 guests per night who can enjoy a range of activities and are provided with all their meals while they stay. Good food in a welcoming environment that meets peoples needs is a core part of what our guests expect.

Guests have a range of support needs and our catering assistants/cook will plan, prepare and deliver healthy meals and snacks in line with guest preferences and eating and drinking support needs. About the Service

Our short breaks service operates 24 hours per day and is based in Motherwell. We are registered with Care Inspectorate and offer guests a person centred experience for each guest based on their needs. Our catering staff work alongside our domestic staff, admin staff and team of support workers and good teamwork is an essential part of the role.
Shift Pattern

Our catering staff are required to provide lunch and dinner as well as snacks. We have two posts available and each post is for 10.5 hours per week which is worked on 3.5 hour days over 3 days. weekend working is required on a rotational basis and the shifts are 11.30am-3pm to cover lunch service and 3pm-6.30pm to cover dinner service

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day service delivery

  • Prepare, cook, present and serve food for clients, staff and visitors at specified times.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Environmental Health regulations – training will be provided on this if required.
  • Adhere to all processes and procedures in line with the highest standards of food hygiene and health and safety.
  • Order food supplies whilst keeping within the agreed budget.
  • Receive and check deliveries and pass the correct invoices to be processed correctly
  • Follow guidelines in relation to the storage of food and stock rotation and control.
  • Follow waste control procedures to reduce waste and stock loss
  • Ensure that all used crockery and cutlery are collected, washed up and put away in a safe and hygienic manner in line with the services infection control policy.
  • Ensure all kitchen linen, e.g. overalls, tea towels etc, are laundered and that adequate stocks are available.
  • Identify and advise on catering requirements within the Service.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of recipes in relation to healthy eating and the special needs of the client group.
  • Identify training needs where applicable

Physical Environment

  • Cleaning of the physical environment and all catering equipment including crockery and cutlery as directed by the Registered Manager.
  • To clean working areas and equipment after use in accordance with cleaning schedules, infection control and statutory regulations.
  • To order food supplies whilst keeping within the agreed budget.

Organisational Responsibilities

  • To plan menus within an agreed budget, prepare and cook food in line with approved recipes and keep food wastage to a minimum.
  • To order food supplies whilst keeping within the agreed budget.
  • Reporting any Health & Safety or equipment malfunction issues.
  • Attending supervision sessions with line manager.
  • Attending training sessions as required.
  • Undertaking any other associated tasks as reasonably requested
