Reception Teaching Assistant
A welcoming primary school is seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child who has Autism. This role is about building trust, offering consistency, and helping the pupil feel safe and ready to learn. You will be working at a KS2 level with guidance from the Teacher. This role is to start ASAP.
Role
You will work closely with the class teacher to support both learning and wellbeing, using patience, empathy, and creativity to nurture confidence and resilience. The focus will be on emotional regulation, encouragement, and gentle guidance through daily routines.
Ideal Person
Applicants should hold a relevant degree or a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification. Experience with trauma‑informed approaches is highly beneficial. What matters most is your ability to connect with children, remain calm under pressure, and bring a caring, reliable presence.
Qualifications & Requirements
- A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or a background in education or care (NVQ, CACHE, Degree, or equivalent)
- Experience supporting children with SEND
- Passionate working with young children or adults with disabilities
Location – Carlisle
Role Type: Full Time / Temp – Perm
Pay Rate: £14.60 – £16.90 per hour
Hours: 8.30am–3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Term time

If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
