The Sensata design centre in Swindon develops integrated circuits and MEMS solutions for a wide range of applications, working with our customers to take designs from specification to qualified silicon. Our engineers form a multidisciplinary team of electronics experts, who push the bounds of their experience to deliver each new project.
Reporting to the ASIC Design Manager, the Senior/Principal Mixed Signal Design Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership, high-level simulation and block design of mixed-signal ASICs. They have experience in both digital and analog design, being an expert in one or the other.
General Responsibilities
- Participates in and leads block specification, design, verification, and documentation
- Participates in and leads architectural design, system-level simulation, and abstract modelling of analog and digital blocks
- Able to lead a small team of engineers
- Develops and documents the processes by which the team operates
- Serves as a consultant and definitive source of technical advice to other designers
- Serves as technical lead on IC development projects
- Works with the customer to understand and refine requirements, rapidly identifying technical constraints, leading feasibility studies where required, developing system-level architectures and providing internal costings
- Works with suppliers, where required, to understand and select processes & products for the design
- Assists with or leads wider technical activities such as silicon verification, qualification, failure analysis and production test design, as required, lending expertise to these activities
Experience / Qualifications
- A university degree, most probably a master’s in Physics or Engineering, possibly with a postgraduate degree (e.g. PhD)
- Extensive experience of block and system level IC design and verification, having served as a technical lead on multiple successful design cycles and having acquired an appreciable postgraduate-level technical skillset, including layout techniques, and of the physical processes that underpin IC design
- A proficiency with system-level modelling languages such as VHDL, Verilog, etc.
- Contributes fresh ideas & creative solutions, and seeks to improve design processes
- Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
- Strong organisation, planning and time management skills
- Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
- Holds themselves and others accountable to achieving goals and maintaining high standards of work
- Proficient in scripting, with experience of languages such as Python and MATLAB
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate with suppliers and customers
