We are looking for an experienced buyer, preferably with a manufacturing background.
The successful candidate will excel at both the strategic and functional elements of this key role.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the supply chain manager to maintain proper inventory levels of materials used on a regular basis.
- Participate in filling purchase orders.
- Organize purchasing requisitions.
- Help develop an accurate and efficient monitoring system.
- Enter data into databases or other computerized systems to maintain up-to-date supplier and vendor information, track purchases, order status, and deliveries, and generate purchasing reports and statistics.
- Formulate and implement strategy for the commodities under their control.
- Continuously seek improvements in purchasing procedures and methods in line with company strategic growth plans.
- Negotiate the best prices and quality in all supplier dealings.
- Provide supplier interface functions including contracting, auditing, analysis, selection/de-selection, and development.
- Maintain supplier relations and develop strong partnerships.
- Liaise with suppliers daily and with all relevant departments as required.
- Manage material costing and all associated material aspects on nominated customer programs.
- Work closely with the materials control department to assure timely supply of materials into the company.
- Represent the company at supplier meetings and trade fairs as required.
- Contribute to overall team/departmental strategy and keep abreast of latest innovations and developments.
- Ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements.
- Participate in day‑to‑day team activities and drive continuous improvement.
- Meet performance measures and KPIs set for you and your team.
- Communicate in a timely and effective manner with team members and other business parts.
- Participate in training opportunities.
Qualifications
- University degree required (i. e., Bachelor's degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 3+ years of buying experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with mechanical components, injection moulding, electronics preferred.
- Team player able to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple competing tasks and demands.
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
- Strong organization, planning and time‑management skills.
- Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity.
- Self‑accountable to achieving goals and standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel).
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels, including suppliers and external customers.
