Make a meaningful difference every day in a specialist SEN school supporting children and young people aged 2-19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism, and other complex needs. Pupils may also have physical or sensory impairments. This is a nurturing, supportive environment where your role will help build confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
About the role
This opportunity is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for helping young people and making a positive impact. No prior experience is required - full support and guidance will be provided. You will work closely with pupils, particularly secondary-aged students, including those who may display challenging behaviours, offering consistent support in and out of the classroom.
Responsibilities
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported
- Support personalised learning activities that encourage engagement and development
- Provide 1:1 and small group support with a focus on communication, behaviour, and sensory needs
- Assist with personal care and mobility where required, following individual care plans
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to maintain a consistent and positive environment
- Encourage independence through life skills and community-based activities
- Be ready to take part in physical activity such as floor-based play, interventions, and responding to escalated situations
Requirements
- A positive attitude and a genuine desire to support children and young people with additional needs
- Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS and register on the Update Service
- Full-time right to work in the UK
