Position: SEMH Learning Mentor

Location: Sunderland

Contract Type: Full Time, Term-time only

Rate of Pay: Β£500 - Β£600 per week

Working Hours: 08:30 - 16:00

About the School: We are proud to be working alongside a supportive and forward-thinking specialist school in Sunderland that is seeking a dedicated SEMH Learning Mentor to join their team. This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping pupils build confidence, develop coping strategies, and achieve their full potential in a structured and nurturing environment. Classroom experience is beneficial but not essential. However, a good understanding of SEN/SEMH needs and the challenges young people may face is important.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual student needs.
  • Support pupils in managing their emotions and behaviour, promoting positive choices and engagement in learning.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and external professionals to ensure consistent and effective support strategies are in place.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with additional needs (desirable but not essential).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when working with students.
  • The ability to remain adaptable and responsive in a dynamic school setting.
  • A collaborative attitude and commitment to contributing positively to the wider school community.

To be Eligible for This Role:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application.
  • Provide two professional, child-related references covering the last two years.
