We are seeking passionate, proactive, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants with a background in sports coaching to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within an inspirational Alternative Provision setting in Sunderland. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity offering the chance to build strong relationships with pupils and support their progress, engagement, and personal development.
Location: Sunderland.
Role details
- Based in a specialist Alternative Provision in Sunderland, supporting pupils who have been temporarily excluded from mainstream education
- School works with pupils aged 11-19 with SEMH needs, with opportunities to support across different year groups depending on your experience and interests
- Setting benefits from a highly supportive leadership team and a strong collaborative culture, where staff work closely together to provide high-quality support
- Pay: £88-£115 per day
- Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm
- Contract: Full-time, long-term
- Start Date: ASAP
Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis, both in lessons and around the school, to promote engagement and progress
- Develop an understanding of individual pupil needs and learning styles, working closely with class teachers and colleagues
- Support pupils with a range of SEMH needs and challenging behaviours
- Opportunities to work with pupils across different age ranges, depending on your preference, experience, and skill set
Qualifications and requirements
- A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare qualification is desirable
- Experience working with children in UK school settings
- Ability to build positive, professional relationships with pupils and staff
- A resilient, proactive, and positive approach
- Right to work in the UK
- An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
- Two professional references covering the last two years
