SEN Sports Coach / Teaching Assistant - SEMH Support (Secondary School) - Bolton

Start: ASAP | Until end of academic year

Monday - Friday | 8:30am - 3:45pm

Are you a passionate Sports Coach or Teaching Assistant with a strong interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs? We are working with a specialist SEN secondary school in Bolton seeking a proactive and engaging individual to support a pupil on a 1:1 basis. This is a highly rewarding role where your ability to build relationships and use sport as a tool for engagement will make a genuine impact.

The Role:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a secondary‑aged pupil with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
  • Supporting the pupil who can struggle to maintain focus within the classroom environment.
  • Taking a lead role in outdoor learning and regulation activities, including football sessions (a key interest of the pupil), structured playground activities, and using physical activity as a strategy for emotional regulation.
  • Helping the pupil re‑engage with learning following periods of dysregulation.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to implement consistent strategies.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Background in sports coaching, youth work, or SEN support.
  • Confident working 1:1 with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH needs and behaviour management strategies.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
  • Energetic, resilient, and able to think on your feet.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people outside of a traditional classroom setting.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people (SEN experience desirable).
  • Enhanced CHILD AND ADULT DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Reliability is key - consistency is crucial for this pupil's routine.
