Here at Prospero Teaching we partner with local SEND teams and schools across the North East. We are looking for Specialist Tutors who have experience supporting students 1:1 or in small group sessions with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Chester‑Le‑Street.
The Opportunity
We need our SEND tutors to create and deliver engaging lessons for students with a large range of SEND tailored to each individual student. Your experience may come from previous tuition or classroom environments, where your skills can be transferred to a more 1:1 focused lesson. One of the main aims of the role is to support the student in their learning, but we need tutors who can also provide them with the stability and structure they need to excel in their everyday lives.
Contract / Position Details
- Location – Chester‑Le‑Street
- Position – SEND Specialist Tutor
- Type of work – Contract
- Start date – ASAP
- Setting – either within the student’s home or in the community (learning hub/library)
- Duration – Until the pupil is able to find a suitable school placement
- Contract type – Temporary
- Availability – Full‑time/part‑time, ranging from 6–15 hours per week per student
- Rate of pay – up to £30 per hour (negotiable)
Your role with us
- Support students with SEND through individual and small group sessions, developing self‑confidence, independence, practical life skills, community awareness and basic food preparation.
- Plan and deliver bespoke learning activities that meet individual needs and close gaps in learning.
- Assess and review learner progress on an ongoing basis, sharing clear and constructive feedback with students and their families.
- Establish a calm, positive, and inclusive learning space that encourages engagement and restores confidence in education.
- Record daily attendance accurately and complete structured weekly reports in line with requirements.
Experience, Training and Qualifications
- Children‑related/Education qualification
- UK classroom teaching experience
- Creative, patient and willing to think outside the box
- Experience working with students with SEND including ASD, ADHD, GLD and challenging behaviours
Eligibility
- Hold the right to work in the UK
- Hold an enhanced child‑barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
- Be able to reference the last two years of education/employment
