About the role

Luma Education Recruitment is looking for a SEND Science Tutor (or Science Teacher with SEND experience) to join a well-established secondary alternative provision in Solihull. This is a full-time, onsite, one-to-one tutoring role with pupils aged 11-16 (KS3 and KS4) who learn best outside mainstream school. Many of them have SEND or other additional needs.

You’ll bring science to life through engaging, accessible sessions. You’ll build pupils' curiosity and confidence and support them towards GCSE Science where that’s right for them.

About the school

The school is a small, full-time secondary alternative provision. It was founded four years ago by former teachers and has a nurturing, relationship-focused approach. Staff know every pupil well, and the right person will be supported to settle in and make a real difference.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging one-to-one science lessons tailored to each pupil's needs and ability
  • Use practical, hands-on and real-world examples to make biology, chemistry and physics accessible, supporting GCSE Science preparation where appropriate
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have had difficult experiences of education
  • Track progress and share updates with the school team
  • Follow the school's behaviour, safeguarding and wellbeing policies

Requirements

  • A specialist background in Science is preferred (QTS, QTLS, a relevant degree or strong tutoring experience)
  • Real experience supporting young people with SEND
  • Compassionate, patient and empathetic. The school values the right temperament as much as experience on paper
  • Calm, consistent and nurturing, with the flexibility to adapt each lesson to the pupil in front of you
  • A full-time, long-term position with a clear route to a permanent role
  • A competitive daily rate of £140-£200, depending on experience
  • A dedicated Luma consultant who supports you before and during your placement
  • The chance to join a small, supportive provision where your work is visible and valued

Luma Education Recruitment is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates will go through safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS and reference checks.
