Essential: Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle
Not every young person arrives at school feeling ready to learn.
Some have experienced difficulties in mainstream education. Others may struggle with anxiety, emotional regulation, communication or building relationships with adults.
We're recruiting a SEND Pupil Engagement Support Worker to join a specialist education setting in Plymouth, helping children and young people rebuild confidence and develop a more positive relationship with education.
This role is about understanding the individual behind the behaviour and providing the consistent support they need to move forward.
You'll work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to provide personalised support.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Building trusting relationships with pupils who find education challenging.
- Providing 1:1 support during lessons and structured activities.
- Supporting young people with autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication difficulties.
- Helping pupils manage emotions and develop coping strategies.
- Encouraging participation in learning and practical activities.
- Supporting positive behaviour through patience and consistency.
- Helping pupils develop social skills and independence.
- Supporting educational activities within the wider community.
- Recognising achievements and contributing to progress reviews.
You don't necessarily need to come from a traditional classroom background.
Experience within SEND, youth work, care, residential support, mentoring, behaviour support or education could be particularly valuable.
You'll need to be:
- Calm, patient and emotionally resilient.
- Confident supporting young people with additional needs.
- Able to build positive relationships and establish boundaries.
- Flexible when plans or situations change.
- Reliable, proactive and committed to pupil wellbeing.
A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, is also required.
This is a full-time, term-time opportunity with an immediate start, offering valuable experience within specialist education.
For some pupils, success begins with simply feeling comfortable enough to walk into a classroom.
