Luma Education Recruitment is pleased to be recruiting for a SEND Functional Skills Teacher to join an outstanding specialist education setting in Newton Abbot, Devon.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified teacher with QTS who has a background in Maths, English or Functional Skills and is passionate about providing personalised, engaging education for young people with additional needs.

You'll be joining a supportive specialist team where education extends well beyond traditional classroom learning. Alongside Functional Skills Maths and English, pupils are supported to develop life skills, independence and preparation for adulthood, making this a varied and genuinely rewarding teaching role.

About The Role

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level through to Level 2
  • Plan and deliver lessons tailored to individual abilities, interests and learning goals
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of pupils with SEND, autism, learning difficulties and additional needs
  • Support pupils with both academic development and practical life skills
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and create a safe, encouraging learning environment
  • Monitor progress and contribute to individual learning plans and reviews
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and the wider specialist education team
  • Encourage independence, confidence and preparation for future education, employment and adulthood

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for an enthusiastic and committed QTS-qualified Teacher with experience in Maths, English, Functional Skills or a related subject.

Experience within SEND, specialist education, Alternative Provision or similar settings would be highly desirable, although teachers from mainstream backgrounds with a genuine interest in specialist education are also encouraged to apply.
