Level 1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Bolton (Secondary & Post-16)

Location: Bolton

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30-15:30

We\’re currently working with a well-established special school in the Bolton area to recruit a Level 1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated and supportive team.

About the Role

You will be supporting students aged 11-19 with a range of Severe and Complex Learning Difficulties (SLD), as well as additional physical, sensory or communication needs. The role involves working closely with the class teacher and other professionals to provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils to access a tailored curriculum and achieve their individual targets set out in their EHCPs.

Typical Duties

  • Assisting pupils with learning activities in a calm, structured environment
  • Supporting with personal care and physical needs when required
  • Using communication aids (PECS, Makaton, visual timetables)
  • Encouraging social interaction and positive behaviour
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school and supporting classroom routines

About You

  • Has experience working with children or young people with special educational needs
  • Holds a Level 1 (or equivalent) Teaching Assistant qualification or is eager to train and develop
  • Demonstrates a calm, nurturing and resilient attitude
  • Can follow individual EHCP targets and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Is reliable, flexible and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
