Flexible hours | Highly rewarding | Term-time only | SEN, Mental Health, and SEMH Support

Are you a compassionate, patient, and experienced educator who wants to make a real difference in a young person’s life?

We’re seeking a dedicated In‑Person Tutor to support a 12‑year‑old student who is currently unable to attend school due to special educational needs (SEN), social‑emotional challenges, or mental health difficulties. You’ll work in a 1:1 setting, offering tailored academic and emotional support designed to help this student re‑engage with learning and rebuild their confidence during a pivotal secondary school year. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who wants to change a life — one session at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 tuition sessions during school hours (typically between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday).
  • Work in a stable environment, often within the student’s home or a local community setting, to provide a safe space for learning.
  • Support the Year 7/8 curriculum, focusing on core subjects like English and Maths through personalised, creative, and low‑pressure teaching methods.
  • Focus on the “Whole Child”: Rebuild trust and engagement with education, using the student’s interests to bridge the gap back to academics.
  • Collaborate for Success: Communicate with parents, carers, and educational professionals to track progress and celebrate the small wins that lead to big breakthroughs.
  • Consistent Schedule: Typically involves 10‑15 hours of tuition per week for this specific student.
  • Work‑Life Balance: Sessions are scheduled during school hours, ensuring your evenings and weekends remain free.
  • Opportunity for Growth: Additional hours can be offered by matching you with further students if desired.
  • Experienced Educators: Previous experience tutoring or teaching children — particularly those with SEN, SEMH, or anxiety‑related school refusal.
  • Relatable & Engaging: Build a strong rapport with a 12‑year‑old, understanding early secondary social and academic pressures.
  • Resilient & Creative: Adapt lesson plans to a student’s changing needs each day.
  • Professional Standards: Possess an Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one) and a solid understanding of safeguarding.
  • Mobile: A driving licence and access to transport is highly preferred to ensure reliable attendance.

About the role

At age 12, missing school can feel isolating. Your presence provides more than just a lesson; it offers a consistent, positive adult role model who believes in the student’s potential. This role isn’t just about hitting curriculum targets—it’s about helping a young person find their feet again and showing them that they haven’t been forgotten by the education system.

If you’re passionate about helping young people who need extra support and want flexible, meaningful work that fits your schedule, we would like to hear from you.
