Reception Teaching Assistant

As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you’ll help young children explore the world through nature, play and imagination. From forest school adventures to art and craft sessions, you’ll support each child’s curiosity and creativity in a setting that values joyful, child‑led learning.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting Reception‑aged pupils within a school‑based early years environment
  • Assisting in the delivery of continuous provision and child‑led exploration
  • Accompanying children on off‑site visits to local parks and green spaces
  • Taking part in forest school sessions and outdoor learning activities
  • Encouraging natural curiosity and creativity through arts, crafts, and sensory play
  • Promoting communication, emotional development, and social skills through play
  • Supporting the class teacher with observations, planning, and daily routines
  • Creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing space for children to learn and grow

What You’ll Need

  • A Degree, Teaching Assistant qualification, or Childcare/Early Years qualification
  • A love for early childhood education and a passion for learning through play
  • Experience in Reception or early years settings (school, nursery or similar)
  • Confidence supporting both indoor and outdoor learning
  • Creativity, patience, and a willingness to get hands‑on with messy, imaginative activities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

The School

Working Hours

Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm
Full‑time and part‑time applications welcome

Safeguarding children

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
