We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join a reputable educational institution in Reading, Berkshire. The role involves delivering high‑quality science education to students, fostering a stimulating and inclusive learning environment, and supporting the overall development of pupils in line with the national curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging science lessons across key stages appropriate to the curriculum.
  • Assess, record and report on pupil progress in accordance with school policies and national standards.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Promote positive behaviour and create a safe, supportive classroom environment.
  • Prepare and maintain teaching resources and laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback to support academic improvement.
  • Support and contribute to extracurricular science activities such as clubs, trips or competitions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in departmental and whole‑school meetings.
  • Engage with parents and carers regarding pupil progress.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of developments in science education and teaching practice.

Qualifications

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent).
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or eligibility to obtain QTS in the UK.
  • Degree in a relevant science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Combined Science).
  • Secondary education to A Level standard or equivalent is required.
  • Experience teaching science within a secondary school setting is preferred (but not essential for newly qualified teachers).
  • Experience in planning and delivering lessons that meet diverse learner needs.
  • Experience managing classroom behaviour effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of the national curriculum for science education.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and enthusiastically.
  • Good interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
  • Competence in educational technology and digital resources to enhance learning.
  • Ability to assess pupil progress and adapt teaching accordingly.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Remuneration

£150 - £230 per day, inclusive of statutory holiday pay.
