We are recruiting a caring and patient SEN Learning Support Assistant to support pupils in the Portsmouth area. This role involves working with children who have additional needs, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs, and social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide consistent, tailored support, helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and feel supported throughout the school day. Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or within a classroom setting depending on the needs of each pupil. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children who benefit from structured guidance and additional support.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 support and small-group assistance for pupils with SEN
- Support pupils during lessons, activities, and transitions
- Assist with emotional regulation and behaviour support
- Help adapt learning tasks to meet individual needs
- Encourage confidence, independence, and engagement
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
- Maintain a calm, structured, and supportive environment
- Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently
Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals
- Calm, patient, and confident supporting additional needs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Adaptable and able to respond to different situations
- Reliable and able to work as part of a team
- Backgrounds in care, youth work, SEN, or support roles welcomed
