Supporting a young person with SEND isn't simply about helping them complete schoolwork. It's about understanding why they're finding something difficult , helping them regulate when they're overwhelmed, building trust and gradually giving them the confidence to do more independently.

  • You'll work with pupils who may have

Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties and other additional needs .

Some pupils may find traditional classroom environments challenging, so your ability to adapt, remain calm and understand behaviour as communication will be important.

  • Providing individual and small-group support.
  • Helping pupils access learning.
  • Building positive and consistent relationships.
  • Supporting emotional and behavioural regulation.
  • Helping young people manage difficult situations.
  • Encouraging communication and social development.
  • Building confidence and independence.
  • Following agreed individual support strategies.
  • Supporting positive engagement with education.
  • Working alongside teachers and specialist professionals.
  • Supporting pupils throughout the wider school day.
  • Develop Specialist Experience

You'll have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge across

SEND | Autism | ADHD | SEMH | Behaviour Support | Safeguarding | Emotional Regulation | Communication | Individualised Learning

That could provide valuable experience if you eventually want to progress into teaching, SEND specialism, pastoral support, behaviour mentoring, youth work, psychology, therapy or other child-focused careers .

You Don't Have to Already Be a Teaching Assistant

We're interested in the experience and qualities you can bring.

Perhaps you've worked in care, youth services, mentoring, sports coaching, residential support or another people-focused role .

You may even be at the beginning of your career and looking for the right opportunity to gain meaningful experience.
