A welcoming and supportive school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the successful candidate the chance to secure a permanent position within the school.

The successful candidate will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop independence and feel confident within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional needs
  • Supporting the pupil to access classroom learning and activities
  • Adapting learning and communication approaches to meet individual needs
  • Supporting emotional regulation, positive behaviour and social development
  • Helping the pupil develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
  • Supporting the implementation of EHCP targets and individual support plans
  • Monitoring and reporting on the pupil's progress and wellbeing
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff
  • Creating a calm, nurturing and inclusive environment for the pupil

The Successful Applicant Will

  • Have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN or additional needs
  • Ideally have experience working on a 1:1 basis within an educational or care setting
  • Have a patient, caring and nurturing approach
  • Be confident supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be reliable, proactive and resilient
  • Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability
  • SEN-related qualifications or Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification (desirable)
  • Experience or training in autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication needs or other additional needs (desirable)
