Secondary Teacher - Alternative Provision (Behaviour / SEND)
Location: Wirral and Liverpool
Contract: Full‑Time
Salary: £30,900 - £41,200 per year (depending on experience)
Teaching Personnel is proud to support a Trust of specialist schools across the Wirral and Liverpool and is recruiting on their behalf for a confident and resilient Secondary Teacher to join the Alternative Provision settings on a full‑time basis.
These provisions support young people with a range of additional needs, including SEN and SEMH. Many pupils present with challenging behaviour and have struggled to engage in mainstream education. The Trust is committed to providing inclusive, structured environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
This role is ideal for a teacher who is confident in behaviour management, skilled at building positive relationships, and passionate about making a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable young people.
The Role Will Involve
- Teaching small groups of secondary‑aged pupils within a structured Alternative Provision setting
- Managing challenging behaviour through clear boundaries, consistency, and a restorative approach
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons to support re‑engagement in learning
- Building positive, trusting relationships to improve behaviour, attendance, and emotional regulation
- Working closely with support staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals
- Travelling between different sites across the Trust where required (Wirral and Liverpool)

- Has experience working with challenging behaviour in Alternative Provision, SEN, or SEMH settings
- Is calm, resilient, and confident in high‑pressure environments
- Can adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of needs and abilities
- Is committed to safeguarding and inclusive education
- Is flexible and willing to work across multiple sites if needed
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Experience working with secondary‑aged pupils with challenging behaviour
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
The Trust requires candidates to hold a valid Enhanced DBS check and to meet safeguarding standards in accordance with DfE statutory guidance 'Keeping Children Safe in Education'.
All pay rates quoted include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. The advert is for a temporary position, with the possibility of the role becoming permanent at a later date.
