About Our School
Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old. With significant investment and new resources, the successful applicant will help shape the school into a place that promotes self-discipline, engagement and learning. Our mission is to provide a diverse and appropriate education that encourages aspiration and achievement. The school is part of the Polaris Community, which includes twelve SEN schools across the UK, and has earned 100% Good or Outstanding Ofsted ratings.
Role Responsibilities
- Support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Ormston School.
- Work with education team members to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning.
- Promote positive learning behaviour with young people.
- Lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
- Deliver enrichment activities.
- Support lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need.
- Respond to immediate concerns clarifying situations.
- Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered.
- Assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils.
- Advocate for the ethos of Ormston School.
- Lead interventions that include reading and phonics, reviewing progress made by young people.
- Develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council.
- Build relationships with parents/carers, actively participating in transitions and consultation visits.
- Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority.
Requirements
- Strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
- Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., HLTA, Cover Supervisor).
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH/Autism in an educational setting.
- Experience with behaviour management and techniques.
- Committed to professional development and willing to learn.
- Willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencement.
