Position: Teaching Assistant (Complex Needs / PMLD)

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Full-Time (Term-time)

Working Hours: 08:30 – 15:30

Rate of Pay: £95.00 – £110.00 per day

About the Role

Are you passionate, compassionate, and patient, with a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of students with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs? We are supporting a fantastic, inclusive specialist provision in Leeds that works with pupils who have a wide range of physical, sensory, medical, communication, and learning needs. Many students require high levels of support throughout the day, including mobility assistance, communication support, sensory engagement, and personal care. This role offers a deeply rewarding opportunity to help pupils access education in a safe, calm, and nurturing environment, promoting dignity, wellbeing, and inclusion. You will work closely with a dedicated team to support each student's development, learning, and personal care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, hygiene, and mobility, including moving and handling (training provided).
  • Support sensory-based learning and communication using systems such as Makaton or PECS.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to implement Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Create a calm and structured environment that encourages engagement, comfort, and emotional wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with PMLD or complex needs (desirable but not essential).
  • A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach to individualized support.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and physical needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting wellbeing of vulnerable learners.

Eligibility

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS on the update service or be willing to apply.
  • Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years.
