We are looking to appoint a skilled and compassionate Senior SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school, supporting children in EYFS and KS1. All pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and many are non-verbal, requiring consistent and structured communication support. This is a full-time, long-term role, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right person.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting non-verbal pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Using PECS, Now & Next boards, visual timetables and other AAC strategies
  • Supporting communication, engagement and emotional regulation
  • Implementing personalised targets outlined in EHCPs
  • Supporting sensory needs and behaviour through positive, consistent approaches
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and senior leaders
  • Acting as a senior member of the support team, offering guidance to other TAs

The Ideal Candidate

  • Has strong experience working with non-verbal children in an SEN setting
  • Confident using PECS, Now & Next boards and visual communication strategies
  • Experience supporting children with ASD and complex communication needs
  • Calm, patient and resilient with a nurturing approach
  • Comfortable working in a structured, routine-based environment
  • Previous SEN school or SEN provision experience is essential
