Long Term Futures is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist for a permanent, full-time position within a specialist education setting in East London. This role involves delivering intensive therapeutic interventions for children and young people with complex needs, including SEMH and neurodiverse profiles. You will work within a multi-disciplinary clinical team to provide assessments, co-produce sensory passports, and implement EHCP targets to help students achieve meaningful outcomes and develop independence.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise closely with the multi-disciplinary clinical team and managers to provide intensive treatment services.
  • Identify and deliver Occupational Therapy interventions as specified in student EHCPs.
  • Conduct observations across the setting to identify pupils who would benefit from therapy but do not yet have it formalised.
  • Co-produce care plans and sensory/communication passports.
  • Advise on classroom modifications and implement Positive Handling Plans in accordance with Safety Intervention.
  • Undertake highly specialised assessments to understand the complex sensory and functional needs of pupils.
  • Develop innovative strategies for difficulties involving motor skills, social skills, and occupational performance.
  • Provide clear written and verbal feedback to parents, carers, and external agencies while maintaining GDPR compliance.
  • Train and support school staff in utilising therapeutic strategies and sensory-based interventions.

Essential Candidate Requirements

  • Recognised Degree in Occupational Therapy and HCPC Licence to Practice.
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
  • Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years specialising in complex needs such as SEMH, ASD, or high-risk behaviours.
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary and inter-agency frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of neurodiversity, attachment, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient IT skills and experience in clinical record keeping.
