Our client, a highly respected primary school in Hinckley, Leicestershire, is seeking an exceptional and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join their team. This is a full‑time, temporary‑to‑permanent position with a competitive salary of £220 per day, negotiable depending on experience.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, multi‑sensory lessons that challenge and support students with special educational needs, ensuring measurable progress towards their learning goals.
- Collaborate with the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and other professionals to identify students’ specific learning needs and implement effective teaching strategies to address them.
- Maintain detailed records of students’ progress, behaviour and attendance, providing regular updates to parents, carers and the school’s leadership team.
- Contribute to the development and review of the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) policy, ensuring it remains up‑to‑date and aligns with current legislation and best practices.
- Actively participate in professional development opportunities, such as training sessions and workshops, to continuously enhance your knowledge and skills in the field of special education.
- Promote a positive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment that celebrates diversity and encourages students to reach their full potential.
- Liaise with external agencies, such as educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, to ensure a holistic and coordinated approach to supporting students with special educational needs.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the school’s leadership team, in line with the responsibilities of a Special Education Teacher.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification recognised in the UK.
- At least 2 years’ experience working as a Special Education Teacher in a primary school setting.
- Thorough understanding of the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
- Proven track record of effectively planning and delivering engaging, multi‑sensory lessons that meet the needs of students with diverse learning requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
- Proficient in using a range of assessment tools and data analysis to monitor student progress and inform teaching and learning strategies.
