Are you a qualified First Aider looking for a rewarding role within a busy secondary school environment? We are seeking a reliable, organised and compassionate School First Aider to join a welcoming secondary school in South Tyneside. Conveniently located for candidates travelling from Hebburn, Jarrow, South Shields, Gateshead and Sunderland, the school is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff.

This is a key role within the school, providing immediate first aid support and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the school's medical provision.

The Role

The successful candidate will be primarily based within the school's First Aid and Medical Room, acting as the first point of contact for students and staff requiring medical assistance throughout the school day.

Responsibilities
  • Providing first aid treatment to students, staff and visitors.
  • Assessing injuries and illnesses and determining appropriate action.
  • Maintaining accurate medical and accident records.
  • Liaising with parents, carers and external agencies when required.
  • Managing stock levels of first aid supplies and ensuring equipment is maintained.
  • Supporting the school's wider safeguarding and wellbeing procedures.
  • Monitoring students who are unwell until they can return to lessons or be collected.

Whilst the role will be predominantly based within the First Aid Room, there may be occasional opportunities to support students within the classroom or wider school environment when required.

Requirements
  • A valid First Aid at Work, Emergency First Aid at Work, or equivalent recognised First Aid qualification.
  • Previous experience in a first aid, healthcare, education or similar support role is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations.
  • Excellent organisation and record-keeping skills.
  • A caring and empathetic approach when working with young people.
What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is approachable, dependable and able to provide reassurance to students during what can often be stressful situations. The ideal candidate will be confident managing a busy medical room, prioritising needs effectively and maintaining high standards of care throughout the school day.

Start Date September 2026, although an earlier start is available for the right candidate. If you're a qualified First Aider looking to make a difference in a school community and play an important role in supporting student wellbeing, we'd love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position; in some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
