Driving: Licence and own vehicle required
Not every child finds education easy to access.
For a pupil with autism, ADHD, SEMH or communication needs, a busy learning environment can sometimes feel overwhelming. Having one consistent adult who understands how to adapt, encourage and support them can completely change their experience.
We're recruiting a Specialist SEND Support Assistant for an education setting in Exeter, with an immediate start available.
You’ll support children and young people to engage with education at their own pace while continuing to encourage progress, independence and achievement.
You’ll provide practical and emotional support throughout the school day, which could include:
- - Delivering 1:1 and small-group support.
- - Adapting activities for different learning needs.
- - Supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH and speech and language needs.
- - Encouraging communication and social interaction.
- - Supporting positive behaviour and engagement.
- - Helping pupils navigate routines and transitions.
- - Following individual education and support plans.
- - Working closely with teachers, therapists and support colleagues.
- - Supporting learning and activities beyond the classroom.
Previous experience with children, young people or individuals with additional needs would be particularly valuable.
Your background could be in education, SEND, care, youth work, residential support, behaviour support or another people-focused environment.
More importantly, you’ll need to be calm, reliable, patient and confident adapting your approach to the individual.
Because of the requirements of this position, you must drive and have access to your own vehicle.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will be required.
If you want to develop your experience in specialist education while doing work that can have a genuine impact on a young person’s future, this could be a great next step.
