Essential: Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle
Every child has strengths, but not every child learns in the same way.
Some pupils need additional time to process information. Others benefit from practical learning, individual guidance or a supportive adult who understands how to adapt their approach.
We’re looking for a dedicated Specialist SEN Learning Support Practitioner to work within a specialist educational setting in Exeter.
You’ll support children and young people with additional learning, communication and emotional needs, helping them access education while developing confidence and independence.
Working alongside teachers and specialist support staff, you’ll help create learning experiences that recognise individual abilities and needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- - Delivering personalised 1:1 and small-group learning support.
- - Helping pupils access lessons through adapted activities.
- - Supporting children with autism, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties.
- - Breaking down instructions into manageable steps.
- - Encouraging communication and positive social interaction.
- - Supporting emotional regulation and classroom engagement.
- - Developing pupils' confidence, independence and practical skills.
- - Assisting with learning activities outside the classroom.
- - Supporting positive routines and transitions.
- - Sharing observations with teachers to help monitor pupil progress.
We’re interested in candidates with experience in:
- Teaching Assistance
- SEND Support
- Youth Work
- Care
- Mentoring
- Residential Support
- Child Development
You’ll need to demonstrate:
- - Patience, empathy and a positive attitude.
- - Confidence working with children and young people.
- - Good communication and relationship-building skills.
- - An understanding of individual learning needs.
- - Flexibility and the ability to adapt your approach.
- - A genuine interest in helping pupils achieve their potential.
Previous experience in specialist education is beneficial, but transferable skills from other supportive roles are also welcome.
A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will also be required.
This full-time, term-time position offers an ASAP start and the opportunity to develop valuable experience supporting young people with additional educational needs.
You’ll be helping pupils achieve progress that matters to them, whether that’s completing a task independently, communicating more confidently or becoming more engaged in their education.
