The Opportunity

Long Term Futures are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Post‑16 provision in the Barnet area. The setting supports young adults aged 16‑25 with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and communication needs. The provision focuses on delivering personalised learning programmes that promote independence, life skills, communication, and preparation for adulthood. With flexible learning and community outreach being a priority, this provision is looking for someone who is keen to support a learner's overall development and well‑being and not just academically. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting learners with additional needs and helping them achieve meaningful outcomes.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for learners with complex SEN needs
  • Support personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes
  • Assist learners in developing independence, communication, and life skills
  • Support emotional regulation, engagement, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Provide personal care support where required, maintaining dignity and wellbeing at all times
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Support learners during vocational, classroom‑based, and community activities
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with learners, families, and colleagues

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEN and complex needs
  • Experience providing personal care within an educational or care setting
  • Strong understanding of Autism, communication difficulties, and additional learning needs
  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusive practice
  • Must have an enhanced DBS check and two references
