We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and committed Level 3 Qualified SEN Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive school community in Warwickshire. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual potential. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to deliver tailored support for pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day
  • Assist pupils in accessing lessons by adapting tasks and explaining instructions clearly
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets during lessons
  • Deliver targeted interventions (phonics, social skills, speech and language activities)
  • Provide support during transitions between lessons and unstructured times (break/lunch)
  • Use visual timetables, now/next boards, and other structured approaches to support understanding
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation using agreed strategies and de-escalation techniques
  • Assist with personal care and medical needs where required
  • Encourage positive behaviour and model appropriate social interactions
  • Prepare and organise learning resources and classroom materials
  • Record observations and contribute to daily progress notes
  • Communicate effectively with teachers and SENCO regarding pupil progress and concerns

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support for pupils with SEN in line with school policies
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
  • Monitor, track, and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Support behaviour management and emotional wellbeing strategies
  • Contribute to review meetings and planning for pupil support

Requirements

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs
  • Strong understanding of SEN strategies and inclusive practice
  • Excellent communication, patience, and empathy
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures

Desirable

  • Experience supporting pupils with autism and/or SEMH needs
  • Knowledge of interventions such as PECS, Makaton, or phonics programmes
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
  • First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake training)
