Classroom support are excited to be working with a school in Chatham who are looking to recruit a number of Learning Support Assistants to start over the next couple of months on temp to perm contracts. The school supports students aged 11-16 with SEMH. The environment can be very challenging in terms of behaviour; however, the senior leadership team look to promote staff members that work hard and make a lasting positive impact on their students. There are huge opportunities to progress.
Starting on a supply basis with the possibility for Temp to Perm. The positions will start on a temporary basis with the option of going permanent after a number of weeks working with the academy through our Classroom Support agency.
It is essential that you have some of the below experience:
- Experience of supporting children/young adults with Social, Emotional and Mental Health support needs.
- Challenging behaviour management experience is a must.
- A keen understanding of being able to create bonds with students that have had trauma and attachment difficulties, and to be able to quickly build trust.
- Worked within a Pupil Referral unit, SEMH school, young offenders institute, within the Youth Justice system or children's homes previously would be advantageous.
- Experience mentoring children and young adults within SEN schools or candidates with a mental health support/young offender's background would also potentially be strong candidates for the roles.
- Any experience of restraint training is highly advantageous but not necessary as the school use this as a last resort in all cases; attachment training is also advantageous but not necessary.
- Solid knowledge and experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
- Any understanding of supporting children within the foster system is also advantageous or looked after children. Previous work as a Foster Carer would also be a big advantage.
The rate of pay is £100 to £105 per day for the right candidates. Temp to perm option also.

You will need a DBS on the update service or be willing to pay £63.70 for a new DBS if you do not have one for us to be able to place you in a school.
