Start

Date: After October half term SEND Inclusion Support is recruiting on behalf of one of our partner SEND schools for a dedicated Sixth Form SEND Teacher to support young people aged 16-19 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive school where you'll help students develop confidence, communication, independence and functional skills as they prepare for adulthood.

The role will initially provide teaching cover while the school recruits permanently, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right teacher.

You'll teach a small class of six post-16 students who benefit from a personalised, structured approach to learning.

The students

  • Have diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Communicate verbally
  • May use symbol-supported worksheets and visual timetables
  • Are working between Entry Level 1 and Entry Level 2

Your responsibilities will include

  • Planning and delivering accessible lessons for Entry Level learners.
  • Supporting communication through visual resources where appropriate.
  • Developing pupils' confidence, independence and functional life skills.
  • Creating consistent classroom routines that help students thrive.
  • Building positive, respectful relationships with learners.
  • Working closely with teaching assistants and the wider school team.
  • Monitoring progress and adapting teaching to individual needs.
  • Encouraging meaningful participation and preparation for adulthood.

We're looking for a teacher who believes every young person deserves an education that prepares them for life beyond the classroom.

You'll ideally have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching pupils with SEND or Autism Spectrum Condition.
  • Confidence differentiating learning for Entry Level learners.
  • Experience using visual supports and accessible teaching resources.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • A flexible, creative and person-centred approach.

Experience within specialist SEND schools, post-16 education or alternative provision would be particularly valuable.

  • Full-time role starting after October half term.
  • Potential temp-to-perm opportunity for the right candidate.
  • Small class sizes and personalised teaching.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference during an important stage of young people's lives.
  • Ongoing support from SEND Inclusion Support throughout your placement.

If you're passionate about helping young people with autism build confidence, independence and meaningful skills for adulthood, we'd love to hear from you.

SEND Inclusion Support is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment and safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check, right to work verification, references and any other checks relevant to the role and setting.
