Autism Teaching Assistant
Sense Education is seeking a kind, committed Autism Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated team. This long-term, classroom-based role offers the chance to build real connections with pupils and support them to thrive both emotionally and academically. For the right person, there may be an opportunity to move into a permanent role.
The Role
You’ll support pupils with autism across the school day, working 1:1 or in small groups to help them feel safe, calm and ready to learn. Whether you’re helping a child communicate their needs, join in a group activity, or regulate their emotions after a difficult moment, your presence will make a real difference.
You’ll work closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider staff to implement EHCPs and deliver personalised learning. Some pupils may need sensory breaks, others may need visual prompts or help to build social interaction skills. In this role, your creativity, patience and encouragement will help shape their daily experience.
What We’re Looking For
- A relevant qualification (Teaching Assistant, care, health and social care, social work, or similar)
- Experience supporting children or adults with autism or additional needs
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with staff and families
- A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping young people succeed on their own terms

- Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
