Do you have experience supporting non‑verbal students with Autism? This one's for you. A mainstream secondary school in Mile End is looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to support a Year 9 student with Autism who is non‑verbal. Full time, long term, term time only – starting September, with the potential to go permanent.

You'll be the consistent, trusted presence this student relies on every single day. Working within a supportive mainstream secondary, you will help them access learning, communicate, and thrive.

The Role – What You Need To Know

Location: Mile End, East London

Start Date: September

Hours: Full time | Long term | Term time only

Position: 1:1 support – Year 9 student, Autism, non‑verbal

You’ll Be Doing This Every Day

  • 1:1 Autism support for a non‑verbal Year 9 student throughout the full school day
  • Implementing EHCP targets and contributing to the student’s progress
  • Collaborating with teachers, the SENCO, therapists, and parents
  • Supporting sensory regulation, emotional wellbeing, and social development

You’ll Need This to Apply

  • Direct experience supporting students with Autism – essential
  • Experience with non‑verbal students and communication strategies – highly desirable
  • Previous 1:1 experience, ideally in a secondary setting
  • A calm, consistent, and compassionate approach
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check

Not essential but a bonus: Makaton qualification, PECS training, experience with EHCPs.

Safeguarding

This post involves direct, daily 1:1 contact with a child and constitutes regulated activity relevant to children. An enhanced DBS check and full reference verification will be completed prior to appointment. All applicants must be committed to upholding the school’s safeguarding policy and statutory guidance.
