What does the job involve? Ensuring the best manufacturing techniques are carried out within the Machine Shop by practical application of the most appropriate methods of programming, setting and operation of the machine tool/tools and to stimulate an atmosphere of continuous improvement.
Hours of work: 39 hours per week. Dayshift - Monday to Thursday 6.45am to 3.30pm with 30-minute unpaid break for lunch and Friday 7.00am to 1.00pm.
What will my responsibilities include?
- Grinding, internal, external, setting, and operating as required, all machines within the cell (Studer S40, 1.6m between centres, and Danobat HG72-3000, 3m between centres).
- Develop grinding methodologies for highly complex, very tight tolerance machined parts within the defence industries.
- In conjunction with the Production Manager, ensuring that the methods, tooling and fixtures are used effectively to achieve a cost-effective quality product in accordance with the production requirements.
- Monitoring the process during manufacture to ensure total process control is maintained.
- Ensuring an energetic pursuit of improved methods.
- To train on new technology as required by the department, for example CMM equipment.
- Ensuring that the required Quality standards are achieved by strict adherence to the relevant company procedures.
- Ensuring that high standards of safety and housekeeping are maintained within the manufacturing area.
- Ensuring that preventative maintenance schedules are strictly carried out.
- Ensuring that information relating to the manufacturing process is accurately recorded, maintained and updated to reflect current practice.
- As required by the company help in the training of new and existing employees to aid in their development within the company.
- Effectively working with other management and project personnel to achieve business requirements.
- In addition to these duties, the role holder may be required to carry out other duties as may reasonably be required.
What key skills and experience do I need?
- Must have the right to live and work in the UK (Essential).
- A Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a high precision manufacturing environment.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience of a wide range of grinding/manufacturing processes.
- Experience of working across differing materials in varying applications.
- Experience of working to engineering drawings or work instructions i.e. Job Cards.
- Successful candidate must be confident and capable of developing grinding methodologies for highly complex, very tight tolerance machined parts in defence industries.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings with a high-level understanding of geometric dimensions.
